EMDR therapy is a powerful technique for the treatment of trauma, PTSD, and anxiety. It has been shown to "light up" the neural networks in the brain, enhancing the brain’s ability to access and process traumatic memories. This can help resolve trauma more effectively than talk therapy alone, and helps transform negative beliefs about the self and the world into more positive ones.
EMDR therapy online
Through my years of working virtually, I've found that EMDR is just as effective online as in-person. Originally discovered through a left-right pattern of eye movements, the core element of the EMDR protocol is referred to as “bilateral stimulation.” A wide range of equally effective choices exist for bilateral stimulation, including visual, auditory, and tactile methods. These methods are delivered online in much the same way as they would be in the office.
Working with me, you'll have an opportunity to choose the bilateral stimulation method that works best for you. Most people find that the tactile method of left-right self-tapping works well. EMDR-based smartphone apps and hand-held devices, which can deliver tapping sensations or facilitate eye movement, can also be recommended for those who would like them.
